Arc and Flat-field Lamps

Arc lamps for spectral calibration are available in the Telescope Utilization Bin (TUB). Currently two lamps are available, Hg-Cd and Ne. These lamps are controlled from the Motor Control GUI. The software is started using the command nickel_inst_gui on noir. To use the arc lamps you must also put the solid diagonal mirror in the light path so that the white card on the back of the mirror directs the arc lamp light into the instrument. Observers should note that if the filter and apertures wheels are not mounted on the telescope, the arc lamps will not be available for use.

The flat-field lamps are mounted on the telescope to illuminate either the flat-field screen, the windscreen, or the white patch on the inside of the dome shutter. The flat-field lamp power and brightness control are through the Naux_fe software.
